Sometime in mid-March, my boss loaned me her copy of the book Twilight, thinking that I would enjoy it. Little did she realize the obsession she was starting! I have since read all four of the books (countless times!) and watched the movie multiple times. I have also purchased the movie companion guide, and the board game! Sheesh!

I have to say that I really enjoy the books, and am now anxiously waiting for the release of the second movie New Moon in November!!

Since I first picked up the books, little else has gotten done around here. I haven't done any sewing, very little cleaning, and only get to the laundry when I run out of stuff to wear! I'm sure Brad thinks I am a goof!

I am changing the name of my weekly posting to Stash Builder report, since I seem to be making NO progress towards reducing my stash. But, in my defense, this past weekend, Rossville Quilts had an incredible sale! They were collecting items for the county food pantry, and for every item you brought in, you would get 5 free fat quarters for every 5 that you bought. The had a bunch of gorgeous new Fairy Frost colors that I couldn't resist, so I bought 20 fat quarters and got 20 free! Oh well, I guess I am building up my stash in case the recession hits my sewing room!!

Finally got the stitch regulator on my Weekender up and running, and did a practice piece on sunday - I had already recorded the top of the sandwich (when I loaded it) but forgot to count the bottom of the sandwich! Tammy & I went on a mini-shop hop Saturday in the Noblesville/Anderson area, and I found way too much Kauffman Fusions to add to my collection. My goal is to get a fat quater of every color in Fusions #7 line. Fortunately, I have decided to do Judy Laquidara's stash quilt project, so hopefully, I can use up some of the fabric -- I am going the wrong direction!!

I decided to buy some scottie shaped cookie cutters in order to make scottie shaped wool felt pin cushions, so that increases the total for the $45 pin cushion by about $90, since I only had a couple of scottie cookie cutters already! The $45 pincushion

Last night I attempted to make my own felted wool pincushion because I was too cheap to buy a ready-made one for $15. I enjoyed the process so much, I went to the local yarn shop today at noon and bought $45 worth of roving to make more!! sheesh! Below are photos of the original attempt, the roving and the pincushion I made tonight, which looks suspiciously like the one I made last night, even though I used all different rovings!

I decided that I wanted a felted wool pin cushion - and the cost was more than I really wanted to spend, so I put on my thinking cap, did some testing and came up with the above. It's really not as big as I would like, so I think I will add more roving to this one. I started with some felted wool fabric, and needled it into a ball shape and then wrapped roving around it. I tried felting it by hand, but it's not very firm, so adding more roving and felting it again will improve it -- I hope!

When I decided to list my currently unfinished projects, I didn't realize how many I actually had, and how many of them just need one or two things to be finished!! The Baby Stars and Leaf Summer Behind quilts only need the binding! Several of the wallhangings only need to be quilted and bound (which shouldn't really be that much work, because they are so small). Maybe I need to join a challenge for those as well, just to get me motivated to actually finish something!! I have a shirt that says "Queen of Unfinished Projects" and I believe I am living up to the title!!

Our business office cluster celebrated the holidays on 12/18 at the University Plaza Hotel with a hot mexican buffet. The food was delicious and we had an ornament gift exchange. This is only a fraction of those attending.

These are some photos of the Christmas tree and gingerbread house on display in the great hall at the Purdue Memorial Union. The tree was donated by a local couple - it was trimmed "down" to 25 ft tall in order to fit into the hall. The bottom photo is taken from the main floor, and the photo above it is taken from the balcony that is seen in the background. The gingerbread house is 9 ft tall, and you can see the kids love going in it. Apparently, every year someone tries to eat pieces off the house!! I loved the little gingerbread dog and doghouse!

This neat doggie fabric is from Timeless Treasures -- notice that it has black and brown scotties!

I have recently gotten hooked on fabrics with metallic highlights -- I got these fat quarters to make another quilt -- also the 5 inch charm pack of coffee themed fabrics is called Bistro by Moda - the snowman fat quarter was a door prize on the bus, it is called S'mores.

I also got some nice thread from Superior Threads to use for maching quilting, and I ordered the stitch regulator and frame upgrades for my Weekender quilting machine and Hinterberg frame. Hopefully, it won't take long for the SR to arrive - I am anxious to get it installed and get quilting!

Ruthie, Tammy, Peggy & I went to a quilt show in Valparaiso saturday. Along the way we stopped at Bits 'n Pieces quilt shop in Crown Point. Here we are at the Red Robin enjoying a late lunch and a frosty cold beer. (Tammy had raspberry iced tea). On the way home we stopped at Fair Oaks Dairy to enjoy some home-made ice cream -- it was soooo creamy & very yummy!

Neighborhood Excitement

Saturday evening I saw an ambulance back into the neighbor's driveway across the street, and another neighbor was standing in my front yard. Of course, I went outside to be snoopy and find out what was going on! The house diagonally across the street was on fire!! The ambulance arrived 15 minutes before the fire trucks did!! It's scary to think that it takes that long for our fire trucks, that are 2 miles away, to arrive!! (911 was called twice!!) The house is under going extensive remodeling, fortunately, the fire was contained to the garage, but the family had just purchased new cherry cabinets for the kitchen and had stored them in the garage -- the cabinets were ruined! Half the neighborhood just stood and watched the fire - no one got a hose or anything - not even the retired fire chief next door! Another scary thought that your neighbors would just stand and watch your house burn down!! Here is a photo of the fire truck that was blocking our driveway, and the house that burned.

Post surgery update

Had rotator cuff repair surgery on tuesday. Dr Butcher (great name for a surgeon eh?) said there was a small tear that he stitched up and a big tear that he repaired with an anchor. I'm very swollen and have above moderate amount of pain. The meds are great on the pain, but make me a bit dizzy (not ditsy!). I am off work until approximately the 30th -- and then the 31st is our 15th wedding anniversary! Hope I will be up for dinner out by then!

Introducing Maxwell!

These are the first photos of our new addition, Maxwell. Since he is only a month old, he is still living with his momma and Cathy Kirby in Virginia. He will get to come home with me in June after the Scottie convention in Cincinnati. In the bottom photo, he is the puppy on the left of the brindle. He has 6 brothers and sisters. I think he is a real cutie-pie and can't wait to hold him!

Sweet Dreams Little Buddy

It is with great sadness that I tell you that our Grand Old Gentleman Scottie Fraser went to the Rainbow Bridge today to be with his pals Angus & Abbey. He worsened overnight and there was nothing more the oncologists at the Purdue University Veterinary Teaching Hospital could do for him. I would like to thank Dr Abbo, Dr Knapp, Amalia, Patty and all of the others who took such good care of Fraser during his visits. He always seemed to enjoy "going visiting" at the hospital. He was much loved and will be greatly missed. Sweet Dreams Buddy -- I love you & miss you.

A Grand Old Scottie

This is a recent photo of our 12-1/2 yr old scottie Fraser. He was diagnosed with bladder cancer in August 2006. Until recently he has been doing very well with his chemo treatments. Unfortunately, it appears that he is developing other health issues with his liver. He is a wonderful "gentleman scottie" and still likes a good meal and treats!

A New Hobby

Last month I bought a BabyLock Embellisher machine, which is basically a needle felting machine. I tried a friends machine at our monthly Fiber Arts group meeting and liked it so much I had to have one. Here are some samples that I have made with my new machine. Also a photo of the machine. I am hoping to get inspired for a project making use of these samples. The are made with wool felt, yarn and other odds and ends.

Earthquake - Midwestern style!!

At approximately 5:36 a.m., we felt the effects of a 5.2 magnitude earthquake that was centered near Salem IL. I was still asleep, but it sounded like a herd of raccoons playing chase on the roof! A few hours later, we had an aftershock from a second earthquake that registered 4.5. I still think we are having earthquakes in the midwest because Texaco shut down their oil drilling & refining operation in Lawrenceville IL. But, I am not a geologist, so who knows for sure!

Cincinnati Scottie Friends are presenting the 2008 Scottie Collectors Convention "25th Scottie Family Reunion - Scottie Celebrations" to be held June 18 - 21, 2008 at the Holiday Inn Eastgate, Cincinnati OH.

Four non-stop days of scottie everything! Room hopping/shopping begins after wednesday evening check-in and reception. Thursday includes Show & Tell and the highlight is the Auction with Leighton Turner, auctioneer extraordinaire! Friday is the scottie Extravaganza Sale -- load up on collectibles!! This is my "Leaf Summer Behind" quilt from the 2006 Illiana Shop Hop. Machine pieced and appliqued. Long arm quilted by my friend Ruthie with the "autumn oaks" panto and variegated autumn colors Star thread. This quilt is 65 x 65.

Weekender 10-inch throat quilting machine and Hinterberg regular frame - poles are 72" in length. Practice fabric loaded -- still need lots of practice before tackling a real quilt!!
